Bhagwan – Saffron Oudh

This is another pack that I received as a sample from Eugene, the owner of Bhagwan Incense, when I ordered from his shop at the end of 2023. A 15g pack costs €4.95 and contained 14 sticks, which works out to about €0.35 per stick. The burn time is stated as 40-45 minutes.

Disclosure: Due to my history and friendly relationship with Eugene, the owner of Bhagwan Incense, I would like to point out that I cannot write reviews of this brand with complete impartiality. I write a lot of the Bhagwan reviews based on samples that were given to me – these are labelled accordingly.
All reviews are unpaid and reflect my honest opinion, but you are welcome to consider them as advertising.

The best description I can find for the scent of Saffron Oudh is bitter-almond marzipan (a.k.a. persipan.) It is a tart, sweet and heavy scent.
In some ways, it is reminiscent of confectionery, rich and full-bodied. In the raw smell of the sticks, however, I also perceive this note as somewhat medicinal and iodine-like.
I don’t find a scent that I would particularly associate with oudh, or agarwood in Saffron Oudh. The only olfactory similarity I see is in the Agarwood from BERK or other incense sticks presumably produced by HMS like Ganesha – Agarwood. Both, however, are missing the marzipan note, which makes the scent fuller, heavier, and sweeter.

Saffron Oudh does not suit my taste nearly as much as Saffron Sandalwood from Bhagwan.
