Pushkar Temple – Chocolate
A month before I found some basically new packs of Pushkar Temple incense on Kleinanzeigen, I discovered a handful of quite frayed and half used-up Pushkar bundles on that site. The names weren’t recognizable because the name tags had slipped between the sticks, and the previous owner didn’t want to risk tearing the paper even more.
I bought them anyway because the brand is so difficult to find here, and the price was very reasonable given the condition.
One of these scents was Chocolate. I knew from an Instagram account that sells Pushkar Temple incense that this scent exists, but I certainly wouldn’t have chosen it myself.
Had I not known the name, I might have guessed that Chocolate was a milder bakhoor interpretation.
The scent isn’t unpleasant. It’s sweet and indeed a bit confectionary, but also strangely perfume-like or cosmetic. There’s something vaguely floral in the fragrance, which contributes to this impression.
Chocolate has a fairly pronounced tart-aromatic component, which you could indeed interpret as cocoa-like. But it’s quite a far-fetched concept, one that requires a certain level of mental engagement to recognize it as chocolate.
My friend Max once described the scent as “caramel and dish soap, but not soapy,” and I can totally relate to that.
On my balcony, I find Chocolate quite pleasant, but it doesn’t exactly blow me away.
