Shoyeido – Magnifiscents – Emerald
In October 2022, I bought a few boxes of the Magnifiscents and one of the now discontinued Angelic line second hand. A box of this Gemstone series costs around €7. Included are 30 sticks, 14cm long and have a burning time of approx. 30 minutes.
Ingredients according to the package: sandalwood (Santali lignum), fennel (Foenuculum vulgare), cinnamon (Cinnamonomi cortex), clove (Caryophylli flos) and spices.
For me, the most prominent of the spices mentioned in Emerald is fennel. The scent is spicy-green, with a peculiar bitter note, as can be found in wild fennel (i.e. bitter fennel, Foeniculum vulgare var. vulgare).
Perhaps the note is also enhanced by other ingredients.
One of the unspecified ingredients could be Reiryo koh, which has a certain curry note or is reminiscent of fenugreek.
In addition to these aromatic-tart aspects, Emerald has a quite noticeable sweetness, which is quite typical for Shoyeido as a whole, but for Magnifiscents in particular.
The bittersweet smell of Emerald is quite interesting, but doesn’t really suit my taste. In general, Emerald seems to be a very popular variety in the Gemstone series.
