Jeomra’s – Natur pur – Palo Santo
Georg Huber (Jeomra) became aware of me on Instagram in mid-2023 and offered me samples of the (then) entire line of their in-house incense sticks, which of course I accepted with pleasure.
Palo Santo is part of the ‘Natur pur‘ [pure nature] line, which has grown to have 12 varieties so far. Palo Santo are available from €10.90 for 10 sticks, packs of 20 and 50 sticks are also available. In the best case, this makes a price per stick of about 84ct. If you buy a pack of 10, you pay €1.10 per stick.
The burning time is given as 70 minutes.
Ingredients: Beech charcoal (Germany), palo santo wood, resin and essential oil (Peru), joss powder (Vietnam), German forest honey.
Coating: palo santo powder.
Palo Santo seems to me to have a strong olfactory emphasis on the resin, although the impression is probably reinforced by the use of essential oil. I put them in the category of resin incense sticks. Although they don’t contain so much resin that you can see it boiling and bubbling behind the embers, in terms of character they fit in well.
The smell of these Palo Santo stick is intensely resinous and tart-fresh. It has less of the sweetness typical for palo santo, which probably comes mainly from the wood, but it also lacks the rubbery note that is part of its scent profile and which is why I find it in many palo santo incense sticks. In return, they are rather tart and have a very robust character.
These are the most resinous smelling palo santo incense sticks I’ve had so far. They are basically the opposite of the Palo Santo Wood from Jiri & Friends, which are extremely woody and quite mild.
