A.S. Agarbathi Works – Ayurvedic – Chakra

I received these sticks as a freebie with some secondhand purchase; the box was missing.
At Ephra, a 15g pack costs €1.65.

On r/Incense, the brand gets occasional positive mentions; their single-note varieties, like Oudh, are particularly popular. Ayurvedic has been on my (long) list of things to try for quite a while.

A note on the name: Calling the brand ‘Ayurvedic’ is, in my opinion, just marketing; these perfume-heavy incense sticks have nothing to do with actual Ayurveda.

Chakra has an olfactory overlap with oudh-inspired fragrances, featuring a woody, deep or heavy, and somewhat masculine perfume scent. Incense of this genre often shares characteristics with musk varieties, and I also find a musky nuance in Chakra that fits into this category. It adds a certain softness to the moderately sweet scent.
What’s unusual, however, is a strong, rather herbaceous aroma that I haven’t come across in this combination before. It enhances the fragrance’s relatively tart character.
I would find all of this quite appealing if it weren’t for a rather pronounced soapy note, which blends with the herbaceous aspect.

Chakra comes across as a run-of-the-mill masala to me. Whether one gets along with the soapy scent is a matter of personal taste.
