Pure Tibet – Tibetan Incense – Sandalwood

For information about the brand and the usual price, please visit the overview of the Tibetan Incense line.

This variety is what made me aware of the brand. A random Redditor mentioned that these were their favourite sandalwood incense sticks. I was sceptical, but they got me curious.
In mid-2024, I acquired seven of the varieties as clearance stock from a shop closure.

The packaging promises the “pure scent of sandal.” However, I can’t detect any sandalwood scent at all, just like with the Vajra Sandalwood rope incense.
Similar to those, these sticks have a relatively intense acidity and a wood-smoky scent that reminds me more of juniper than sandalwood. However, the characteristic tart note I associate with juniper is missing.
When the smoke sufficiently dissipates in fresh air, the peculiar acidity takes on a refreshing quality. I don’t find the scent unpleasant, it just has nothing to do with sandalwood.
It’s a natural, if rather distinct, smoky scent without any truly acrid aspect.

If these are your favourite sandalwood incense sticks, I’d assume you don’t like sandalwood.
Within the category of ‘Tibetan’ incense sticks produced in Nepal for export, Pure Tibet – Sandalwood is quite all right.
