PremaNature – Sweet Mother

I received this pack from PremaNature as a sample at the beginning of 2025.

A pack of PremaNature incense sticks contains 12 sticks of 8″ length; each burns for 45-55 minutes.
On the back, this pack carries the batch number SMI-1909.

Bought directly from the PremaNature website, the sticks cost 5€ per pack, that makes about 0,42€ per stick. In Germany, they’re so far only sold by Indiaroma, where a pack costs 5,90€ (about 0,49€ per stick).

Ingredients: Theertham (energized water), Cinnamomum cassia powder, Essential oil mix, Tree resin, High-quality & pure charcoal powder, Tectona grandis and Litsea glutinosa powder.

Sweet Mother are PremaNature‘s cinnamon fragrance. The scent is intensely cinnamon-spicy, with a little natural sweetness. Added to this is a woodiness that’s not unusual for natural cinnamon incense sticks; cinnamon is, after all, tree bark.

Unfortunately, the aroma comes mixed with a slightly burnt smell that’s the most strongly noticeable shortly after lighting, but also flares up now and again during the burn. Strangely, however, this isn’t the same with all sticks out of this pack.

I lit three Sweet Mother sticks today:
The first was very mild and unobtrusive so that I almost would have forgotten it burning in the background; the second was almost too cinnamon-sharp for me, furthermore had the burnt note and left a slightly scratchy feeling in my throat. I extinguished this one after a while to light another and see whether my impression would change again. This last stick was yet again of moderate intensity, without prominent off-notes.

Sweet Mother certainly have a characteristic cinnamon smell, but I find that there are better cinnamon incense sticks that smell softer and more rounded than these, without neglecting the typical spiciness.
I think that some other manufacturers use not cassia, but Ceylon cinnamon, perhaps that makes the difference.
