Shankar Perfumery Works – Pink Passion
This large box was included as a gift with my order from the Ephra World at the end of 2022, although I couldn’t find them in their shop.
The box contains 10 thick Fluxo style incense sticks of 9″ or 23cm length. The weigh is 22g per pack.
I couldn’t find these sticks in any other German or European shops either; they seem to be primarily sold on the Latin American market.
The scent of Pink Passion is very potent, but not too strong to burn indoors, as long as you can keep a window and perhaps a door open.
Their balsamic and floral sweetness reminds me of Parimal Yatra. Additionally, something in their scent makes me think of tonka beans.
I detect a resinous, tart note that could come from Sal resin or Damar Batu, something out of the Shorea genus in any case.
Even in their raw scent, I notice a slightly sharp, volatile note that smells like shoe polish to me. This gives them something in common with Meena Supreme. Additionally, I smell a subtle, fresh note that vaguely reminds me of wintergreen. I have so far encountered this scent in several other incense sticks as well.
Pink Passion definitely contains a floral component, but I’m unable to identify it. Perhaps it’s something like tuberose.
When burned outdoors, the sweet notes seem to stand out, while indoors, the tart-resinous note and freshness are more pronounced. The after-smell is just as lovely; a balanced blend of freshness and vanilla-tonka sweetness, paired with a slight tartness and a balsamic tone.
I find Pink Passion pretty appealing and interesting. The scent is multifaceted; with each burn, I perceive the individual components more clearly, and my enthusiasm grows stronger.
After my first encounter with the Fluxo genre in the form of the infamous Sai Sri Flora – which rather put me off – Pink Passion is a real delight, and they’ve convinced me that Fluxo incense sticks can indeed be something for me.
I’ve really grown fond of Pink Passion, which is why I inquired with Ephra World about it.
It turns out that Pink Passion was discontinued, but Ephra’s wholesaler still had 35 bundles (of 12 individual packs each) in stock. I was offered a 12-pack for €12, which I couldn’t resist.
Since I had already discussed the sticks with Sascha (who runs the Indiaroma Shop), he joined in on the order.
In the end, Ephra bought up all the remaining packs, but because it is not worth adding them to the shop, they are only sold in their brick and mortar store or on request.
During the email exchange with Ephra, I learned that Shankhar’s Sai Geeta is also being discontinued. If you like this variety, you might want to stocking up. 😉
