Happy Hari – Oudh Masala [Update]

As I mentioned in my update comment under the review of the Padma Store sample of Oudh Masala, the sticks from the full packages smell different to the single stick sample for some inexplicable reason. So different, in fact, that I prefer to write an entirely new review.

Currently, a pack of Oudh Masala at Padma Store costs €6.45. It contains 10g, or 6 sticks, which makes about €1.08 per stick.

Oudh Masala has a strong men’s perfume or cologne scent. The fragrance has a stereotypically ‘masculine’ feel; a tart, almost bitter note that is embedded in an overall dark, deep aroma.
I smell a subtle, balsamic sweetness in the background. In between, I find spicy, woody, and almost leathery notes. Occasionally, I also catch an earthy or even slightly musty note that reminds me of forest mushrooms. This sometimes intensifies to a sharp, iodine-like smell.

After being absolutely thrilled with the mentioned sample stick, I bought three packs of Oudh Masala, only to then realize that they smell thoroughly different. Had the sample smelled like this, I certainly wouldn’t have bought a whole pack, let alone three.
Thus, my disappointment is unarguably profound, and this affects the review. However, Oudh Masala is by no means bad, I just don’t enjoy these perfume-like scents.

The brand Happy Hari no longer exists, which is why I tag Oudh Masala as [discontinued]. The sticks that Ashok sells at Padma Store are remaining stock. Once these are sold out, these sticks will never be available again in this form.
However, some varieties out of the Happy Hari range continue to be sold by other brands. It is said that Oudh by Temple of Incense are the same as these Oudh Masala. However, one shouldn’t expect that Oudh from TOI smells actually identical. In any case, they seemingly do indeed have said cologne scent (however, I have not yet tried them myself).
