HUSS – Fichte/Kiefer [Spruce/Pine]

This small pack of Fichte/Kiefer [spruce/pine] incense cones was given to me as a little Christmas gift by my friend Sascha. It contains three charcoal-based cones with a side length of just under 3 cm.
These mini packs don’t seem to be sold individually; I suspect Sascha purchased a gift set like this to give away the contents individually.
A regular pack of 24 cones costs €2.90, roughly €0.15 per cone. There’s also a version with larger cones available.

The listed ingredients are only “fine charcoal and natural fragrances.”

I like this small, clever packaging, which doesn’t use any glue. Here’s what it looks like unfolded:

For the first two cones, I used a timer. The ember takes about 10–12 minutes to reach the base of the cone; after that, the cone glows for another 20+ minutes, so care is needed when disposing of the ash.
It’s also worth mentioning that these cones produce very little smoke, likely due to their charcoal base.

The initial scent after lighting reminds me of frankincense, with its resinous and (depending on the type) citrus-fresh aroma, which blends here with a relatively intense sweetness and a general coniferous scent.
Over time, I pick up a woody note that adds a pleasant warmth and rounds out the sweetness.

Toward the end, the scent changes slightly for the worse; it becomes a bit less defined and dulls, which is especially noticeable when walking past the cone. However, the room note remains pleasant.

I don’t find the fragrance particularly characteristic of either spruce or pine, perhaps because I most strongly associate those with the smell of their respective resins, which I collect in local forests. However, there is a noticeable coniferous character, which seems to come from essential oils.
The relatively pronounced sweetness feels a bit out of place for a forest scent, but aside from that, Fichte/Kiefer is pleasant and not too overpowering.

If you enjoy incense cones, these are certainly not a bad choice. However, I wouldn’t purchase them for myself; I simply prefer incense sticks.
