Les Encens du Monde – Herbosense – Palo Santo

I bought this opened pack in mid-2025 on Kleinanzeigen.

The varieties of the Herbosense line cost €6.99 directly from Aromandise. They contain 30 smoke-reduced sticks. They’re ICEA-certified. The producer is Kunjudo in Japan.
I noticed that Aromandise gives the burning time as 30 minutes, but Kunjodo only states 20 minutes.
I had a stopwatch running with one and came out at just under 30 minutes.

The sticks are considerably shorter than the packaging suggests; they’re wrapped in tissue paper for protection, which takes up some space.

Ingredients: wood powder, Palo Santo essential oil.

Since Aromandise speaks only of wood powder rather than Palo Santo wood powder, I assume that no Palo Santo wood is used.

The raw scent isn’t very strong but interesting: an aromatic wood smell, slightly sweet, with an almost minty freshness.
I’ve not yet smelt Palo Santo essential oil. It’s quite possible that it smells mintier than the wood itself.

The fragrance of the burning sticks is very typical for Palo Santo, but very much on the dry-woody side of the spectrum.
I find the smell pretty straightforward, almost monotonous: it remains absolutely consistent from the first moment to the end.

The intensity of the fragrance is in the moderate-to-high range for Japanese incense sticks. In comparison to common Palo Santo incense sticks, or the wood itself, it’s quite restrained. The smoke output is minimal.

For anyone looking for pure but not too intensely smelling Palo Santo incense sticks, Herbosense – Palo Santo isn’t a bad choice.
For anyone wanting to experience pure Palo Santo fragrance in all its complexity, but without all the smoke, I would suggest an incense warmer and using Palo Santo wood chips instead.
