Agarwood is also known as aloeswood or eaglewood.
The Japanese name is Jinko (沈香), the Chinese name is Chén-xīang (沉香).
Sometimes the wood is called Oud or Oudh – a term that actually means the essential oil extracted from the wood.
Agarwood comes from various trees of the genus Aquilaria. It only develops its special scent through infection with a fungus, which causes the tree to produce resin.
