Gulabsingh Johrimal – Frangipani
Two of these sticks I got from Sascha, the owner of Indiaroma, in 2024. We’re friends and occasionally swap samples.
Gulabsingh Johrimal is a bit of a rarity. Apart from Sascha, who sells the 50g packs for €7.90, I only see them at a shop called India Bazar, which lists them as being from Satya Sai Baba (50g/€8).
They’re 8″ (about 20cm) long and burn for about an hour.

This Frangipani smells fairly similar to some Nag Champa I’ve had. I notice a smell in them that reminds me of diesel. I find it most strongly shortly after lighting, when I’m still standing close to the stick; that’s also when a slightly ashy smoke smell mixes in.
Diluted in the room air, the smell becomes more fruity; however, if the scent gets the chance to build up too much, the diesel association returns.
That’s not to say I dislike Frangipani. It does have a lovely, floral aroma, with a soft sweetness and a hint of a waxy note.
A few minutes after lighting, a spiciness emerges, and I find a slightly sour tone; both elements I consider typical for Gulabsingh Johrimal.
Frangipani is on the milder side, but by no means weak. I find it well-suited for summer.
