Ullas – Traditions of India

I got an opened pack of these sticks from Silver in 2024. A year later, Steve sent me 2 sample sticks of it as well.

The bamboo core of Silver’s sample is dyed magenta. Steve’s are undyed.
The Ephra World Shop product picture shows yellow bamboo splints.

At Ephra, a 15g pack costs €1.75. These are 8″ (about 20cm) long sticks.

Traditions of India has, a rather generic but not unpleasant scent. I find the typical woody, balsamic and sweet notes, along with some florality, that you find in many Indian incense sticks, without it standing out in any way from others.
Once a stick has burned down a few centimetres, a somewhat soapy smell starts to set in, which gains in intensity over time.

Notably, the sticks I got from Silver carry significantly more sweetness. Character-wise, though, I nonetheless find them equivalent. Both sometimes remind me a little of toasted coconut.

Silver mentions citrus notes, like lime or lemon, in her review. I couldn’t find any of that; maybe those top notes have since evaporated.
On the soapiness of the smell, though, we agree, and likewise on our assessment: not at all bad, but nothing we’d buy again.
