Nag Champa Tier List
For a while now, I’ve been considering creating rankings for certain incense genres. This is a first attempt, inspired by u/FleshOnGear’s Nag Champa tier list on r/Incense. I’m not sure whether I’ll continue and extend this type of post, but if I do, I’ll aim to update these lists at least once a year. Anyway, this list makes no claim to completeness.
Currently, there are still three unlinked Nag Champa varieties on the list, for which no publication date for reviews has been set yet.
Please note that the ranking levels don’t align exactly with my earlier (abandoned) scoring system. Like the old system, the categorisation isn’t a direct statement about quality, but rather reflects my personal preferences.
With the buttons above, you can jump directly to the ranking levels. (Sorry, it’s a bit buggy on mobile!) The list is sorted in descending order; under X, you’ll find the oddballs, which are not what the name suggests. However, the order within the levels holds no significance.
We also have two special guests on the Nag Champa ranking list.
Special Guests
One could call these two ‘Japanese Nag Champa’; however, since their style differs significantly, they are placed outside the ranking.
4 – Delightful
Shanthimalai – Nag Champa (aka Monsoon Incense – Arunachala Nag Champa)
Vishu – Nag Champa
0 – Awful
X – The Oddballs
Anand – Unique Nag Champa
Ullas – Native Nagchampa
Note:
I haven’t included Mother’s Nagchampa line because it is so extensive and consists almost exclusively of scents uncharacteristic of the genre.
I’ll treat the varieties from other brands’ Nag Champa lines in the same way.
Similarly, I haven’t included “Champa” fragrances, except for a few that I consider particularly fitting.
